Roundup: GEC sale finalized / Business policy proposal / New school rankings

    Closing: The private stock sale of GEC Inc. to Industrial Fabrics owner Cary Goss was finalized today, according to a company announcement. Goss has already met with GEC’s employees and the transition is underway. Terms of the deal are not being disclosed. Read Daily Report’s previous coverage of the sale.

    Business climate: The Pelican Institute today released a comprehensive package of possible solutions aimed at improving Louisiana’s job opportunities and business climate. The proposal from the New Orleans-based, right-leaning think tank aims to reform Louisiana’s legal and regulatory systems to promote business growth. Read the full proposal.

    Top of the list: Baton Rouge Magnet was named the top school in East Baton Rouge Parish by U.S. News and World Report in its annual best high schools ranking. Baton Rouge Magnet was fifth in the state, behind two New Orleans and two Jefferson Parish schools. Lee High School came in at No. 8 in the state and was the only other school to make the top 10.
