State Rep. Lance Harris of Alexandria, the chairman of the Republican Legislative Delegation, has launched a grassroots policy effort called “Take Back Louisiana” to engage voters ahead of the 2016 regular session.

Harris says his goal is to help fix the state’s structural problems, ranging from the budget and transportation to education and individual freedoms.

It will have a loose framework, he says, with the startup money coming from his personal pockets. No donations will be accepted. At the heart of the drive will be a website, to be launched later this month, with forums and other interactive features. Those interested can also text “TakeBackLA” to 313131 to subscribe to an information distribution system.

“We’re going to be taking legislation, some of it which has already been written and filed in previous sessions, and endorsing them as a group,” Harris says. “We’re going to urge people to educate their lawmakers on them and hopefully come up with a long-range plan for Louisiana. We don’t want to get boxed in again like we did in the session this year.”
