The Metro Council Zoning Commission cleared the path at its meeting Wednesday for several projects to move forward.
Several redevelopment efforts were unanimously approved, including the new restaurant on Government Street, and a craft beer and sports bar that will move into the former Capital City Grill home on South Sherwood Forest Boulevard.
With a 9-0 vote, the Zoning Commission approved rezoning property at 3897, 3881 and 3875 Government St. to allow for restaurant use with alcohol service. That clears the final hurdle for Gouter Restaurant, which is being developed by Triumph Kitchen owners Chris and Sommer Wadsworth, to open before the end of the year, as has been their plan.
Gouter will serve traditional Louisiana dishes concocted by Chris Wadsworth and help fund Triumph Kitchen, which helps at-risk youth learn life and survival skills via the culinary arts.
The Zoning Commission also rezoned the property at 3535 S. Sherwood Forest Blvd. to allow for a bar and lounge, clearing the way for the Tap House to open in the former location of Capital City Grill.Â
Also at Wednesday’s meeting, the Zoning Commission rezoned the land at 14452 Airline Hwy. from rural to light commercial one. CJ Brown is planning to develop a new office on the site. The Applebee’s in Perkins Rowe also got rezoning approval from restaurant commercial alcoholic beverage to bar and lounge alcoholic beverage.
Attempts to contact representatives for CJ Brown and Stirling Properties, which handles leasing and management at Perkins Rowe, before this morning’s deadline were unsuccessful.
The Zoning Commission also deferred voting until Dec. 14 whether to rezone a 2.9-acre tract on Jefferson Highway for the proposed Westminster Office Park and a 3.17-acre tract on Old Hammond Highway and Cove Court for the proposed Overton Walk development.
