For nearly four decades, Edgar Silvey has built his career around one constant: change.
As CEO of the Baton Rouge Clinic, Silvey helped transform a physician-owned multispecialty practice into a nationally recognized independent medical group, growing strategically, preserving physician autonomy and fostering a culture where doctors and patients are like family.
As Business Report writes in its latest issue, Silvey has been honored with an Excellence in Healthcare Award for Lifetime Achievement from Business Report.
Silvey never set out to become a physician like his father, one of the clinic’s founders. Instead, he discovered his calling in healthcare administration, drawn to a field shaped by science, leadership and continual evolution. That mindset guided a 39-year tenure defined by growth, resilience and innovation.
Under his leadership, the Baton Rouge Clinic expanded to 18 locations, strengthened primary care, merged with like-minded physician groups and became the only independent clinic in the Mayo Clinic network. Along the way, Silvey helped lead the organization through some of healthcare’s most challenging moments, including Hurricane Katrina, devastating floods and the COVID-19 pandemic.
His leadership approach centers on collaboration and trust. By protecting physicians’ autonomy and seeking their input, Silvey built a model that allowed independent-minded doctors to work together toward a shared mission: improving care for patients.
