Going up: Baton Rouge-based Albemarle Corp. announced today that, effective March 15, it will increase prices of its fluid catalytic cracking catalysts by 10%. “Albemarle continues to make significant investments in its FCC business to improve operating flexibility and as part of our commitment to the innovation and technical service programs that help our customers meet the market’s challenges and increase their profits,” says Dave Clary, Vice President of Heavy Oil Upgrading, in a news release. “Increased prices will help sustain this level of support.”
Swish: A statue will be erected in honor of basketball legend Pete Maravich on the LSU campus. The LSU Athletic Hall of Fame Committee unanimously approved the proposal for the statue Monday. Design and construction details will be announced in coming months. “We are extremely pleased that the Hall of Fame Committee has chosen to honor one of the most influential players in basketball history with a statue on our campus,” LSU Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Joe Alleva says in a statement. Maravich is the all-time scoring leader in college basketball history with 3,667 points over three seasons. He became a 5-time NBA All-Star. After his death in 1988, the LSU Assembly Center was re-named in his honor. A statue of Bob Pettit, another former LSU basketball player, is scheduled to be unveiled Feb. 27 before LSU’s game versus Florida at the Maravich Center. A statue honoring Shaquille O’Neal was instilled on the north side of the arena in 2011.
On the team: Sen. Marco Rubio’s presidential campaign has announced his Louisiana Leadership team. Rubio, a Florida Republican, is seeking the Republican presidential nomination. Sen. Mack “Bodi” White Jr., whose district includes parts of East Baton Rouge, St. Helena, Tangipahoa and Livingston parishes, has been named the team’s chairman. Co-chairs include: Christel Slaughter; state Sens. Mike Walsworth and Ronnie Johns; Reps. Kirk Talbot and Steve Carter; Brian Wagner; Rob Couhig, George Fowler and West Feliciana Parish President Kevin Couhig. Lionel Rainey has been named state grassroots director. Beverly Haydel will serve as state grassroots deputy director. The Louisiana primary is March 5.
