Louisiana pulls back on AI regulation after pressure from White House

Louisiana lawmakers are scaling back efforts to regulate artificial intelligence after President Donald Trump threatened to withhold federal broadband funding from states that adopt their own AI rules, Louisiana Illuminator writes

At least one-third of the nearly 20 proposed bills have been shelved, with some legislators citing concerns about risking critical funding and slowing innovation in industries already using the technology, including health care.

Still, a handful of bipartisan proposals remain under consideration, including measures requiring disclosure of AI use, restricting certain chatbot applications and limiting AI in political advertising. Lawmakers say uncertainty over federal policy, along with pressure from the governor’s office and outside groups, has complicated the path forward.

For now, the only AI bills gaining traction focus on child safety, underscoring a narrow area where state regulation appears viable as broader debates over AI oversight continue.
