Brew Ha-Ha!, the popular Mid City coffee shop, is opening a second Baton Rouge location at the Settlement at Willow Grove later this year.
Owner Gabby Loubiere says she’s signed a lease for a 1,550-square-foot space with outdoor seating on the first floor of a new commercial building planned for the development. Construction is expected to begin soon and take 10 months to complete, and Loubiere is eyeing a fall opening.
In the meantime, Loubiere says she’s installing a roasting room at the Jefferson Highway location, part of an expansion that began after she acquired more space last year. The roasting room should be installed in about two weeks, and Loubiere says the 10-month wait will give her time to perfect the coffee beans to supply the Willow Grove location.
“There’s really no (coffee shops) on that side of Baton Rouge yet,” she says. “I thought if I’m ever going to do this, why not be first, get over there, bring my local vibe?”
The new location will offer breakfast along with her coffee and cake ball menu, and Loubiere hopes to start a local art hop in the neighborhood.
Loubiere joins the owners of Bistro Byronz, who also opened a second location of their Mid City establishment at Willow Grove, along with Flambée Café. Work on the commercial part of the traditional neighborhood development began in 2013.
The Brew Ha-Ha! location on Jefferson Highway, located near the intersection of Government Street, originally opened in 2004 and has since become known for its cake balls and the local art adorning its walls. While regulars have been asking Loubiere if she will be based out of the new location, she says she’ll have a manager handle day-to-day operations at the Willow Grove restaurant, and will continue working at the original location.
