Her guidance starts with mindset: Cybersecurity isn’t optional anymore—it’s a cost of doing business. Moak says basic measures like enabling multifactor authentication, keeping software updated and using strong passphrases can block most attacks. She also stresses employee training as the first line of defense against phishing schemes, and notes many companies already pay for tools like Microsoft Defender but never turn them on.
Most importantly, she says security must be a leadership priority—from cyber insurance reviews to incident response planning—long before an attack occurs.
