Kevin Couhig was assistant secretary of the state Office of Commerce and Industry but was looking to shift into the for-profit side. Now he’s the CEO of Resource Environmental Solutions and its affiliated company, Source Capital. Couhig also serves as chairman of the board for PreSonus Audio Electronics, one of Baton Rouge’s Top 100 Private Companies. He has also served with the Baton Rouge Area Chamber board, the West Feliciana Community Development Foundation and the LSU Business and Technology Center. View photo »

David Manship was the youngest Manship son to take over as vice president for business and advertising for Capital City Press. He went on to become publisher of the State-Times and Morning Advocate until 1999, when brother Doug Jr. took the job. He became the chief operating officer at Capital City Press in June. Michael Trufant was director of public relations for Cellular One in Baton Rouge, after his three years with WBRZ. He now is the CEO of G&M Marine Inc., and is a member of the Baton Rouge Area Chamber board. He also co-founded A6, helping to drive term limits for East Baton Rouge Parish boards and commissions. Anthony Marino, assistant director of aviation at Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport, had been elected to the board of directors of the southeast chapter of the American Association of Airport Executives. He now serves as director of aviation at the airport, which has grown to encompass more than 1,800 acres in north Baton Rouge. View photo »

Jerry L. Stovall, vice president of Louisiana National Bank, was chairman of the Public Affairs Research Council of Louisiana Baton Rouge Metro membership drive. E. Graham Thompson, was elected president and CEO of City National Bank of Baton Rouge. The Arkansas native is now the regional chairman of Whitney National Bank, joining in 1988. He is a member of several nonprofit boards, including Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, Louisiana Bankers Association, Baton Rouge Area Chamber and the Rotary Club of Baton Rouge Foundation.

Samear Zaitoon was awarded the CLU (chartered life underwriter) designation, conferred by the American College in Bryn Mawr, Pa. He went on to serve as a civilian translator of Arabic for the Department of Defense in the Middle East. Now an independent insurance broker, he ran for Commissioner of Insurance as a libertarian, pulling in more than 10% of the votes, a record for a libertarian in a statewide election. View photo »

Davis Rhorer, executive director of the Downtown Development District, said there’s a need for a hotel within walking distance of the Centroplex to bring in more convention business. Christel Slaughter was vice president of SSA Consultants Inc., promoting free enterprise across the country and state. She also chaired the Chamber of Commerce’s 7:30 Club, an ongoing membership drive program. She now is a partner at SSA Consultants and serves as vice chair of Baton Rouge Area Foundation, co-chair of Advance Baton Rouge and member of the Pennington Biomedical Research Foundation. Teri Fontenot was named senior vice president and CFO of Woman’s Hospital. She previously served as CFO at Opelousas General Hospital. She now is president and CEO of Woman’s Hospital. She also serves on several boards, including the American Hospital Association, Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, Capital One Mutual Funds and LSU System Research.

Norman Chenevert was elected vice president/president-elect for the Ameri-can Institute of Architects’ Baton Rouge chapter. He was principal of Chenevert/Soderberg, a professional architectural corporation. Now he is founder of Chenevert Architects LLC. With a staff of 16, its projects have included the Baton Rouge riverfront master plan, the Horizon Plan and a mixed-use renovation plan for downtown’s Kress, Knox & Welsh-Levy Buildings.

JANUARY 1994
Fred Cerise gave up a big salary to work with the residency program at Earl K. Long Medical Center. With his wife, Shannon, they opened a Boys Hope home in Baton Rouge for young boys who show academic potential but are victims of poverty, neglect or abuse. Last month, Cerise was chosen as the LSU System’s first vice president for Health Affairs and Medical Education, and the local Boys Hope program still thrives, with every one of its high school graduates going on to college. There’s even a program for girls in a separate building. Shannon no longer serves in an official role, but Cerise remains chair of its board of directors. View photo »
