NEW ORLEANS (AP) — New Orleans convention officials say the city's convention center has landed six major conventions that will bring about 66,000 into the city between 2012 and 2014.

Estimated economic impact is tabbed at $77.6 million.

In 2012, the Club Managers Association of America, Kiwanis International and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America will meet.

Two other 2012 conventions will see the Ancient Egyptian Arabic Order Nobles Mystic Shine and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

The Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks has scheduled a 2014 convention.

Convention officials say the Lutheran church meeting is expected to be the largest, drawing 36,000 participants.

This looks like Mayor Landreau is trying to play with numbers like most democrats. The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America has been meeting for over 15 years in New Orleans. To count this as something great for the city is very deceiving. I know that this isn't new business since I was at this event over 15 years ago, and I have moved to the New Orleans area and they had the same even last year. They typically have around 35-40 thousand people attending.
