FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: September 4, 2008
BATON ROUGE –Cox Greater Louisiana continues to assess the damage caused by Hurricane Gustav across its service area. We are working diligently to repair extensive and in some areas unprecedented damage to our communities.
Our continuing focus is on our customers and restoring service as quickly and safely as possible. We are making progress every hour, however much remains to be done. We will continue to provide progress updates. As of today, here is status:
Technicians are working to repair service to each regional service node. The percentage of customer nodes in operation at 7:30 a.m. on September 4 are:
Acadiana Region:
Acadia - 100%
Iberia - 80%
Vermilion - 100%
Lafayette - 99%
St. Martin - 80%
St. Mary - 70%
Baton Rouge Region:
Ascension & St. James - 5%
East & West Baton Rouge and East Feliciana - 17%
Iberville - 3%
Livingston - 25%
The storm also damaged individual customer drops. We will be assessing those and repairing them as quickly as possible.
Overall, cable communications rely on power - whether by generator or through local utility companies. Because cable lines share utility poles with electrical lines, our damage mirrors that experienced by the local electrical power company.
As previously announced, six Cox service centers reopened today at 8 a.m. In the Baton Rouge region, Cox’s main office on Florida Blvd. and Denham Springs center reopened. In Acadiana, the Lafayette, Crowley, Abbeville and St. Martinville offices reopened. All of these centers will close at 5 p.m. to allow employees to return home before curfew.
Cox’s Baker service center also opened today. It will be open today and tomorrow from 8 a.m. until 12 noon. Other locations are addressing damage and their status will be announced as it is available.
In light of the LSU game postponement, TigerVision will not be available this weekend. Any customers ordering the LSU-Troy game will not be charged.
Our local maintenance crews of employees and contractors are working to resolve damage issues. Additionally, repair crews from our sister Cox Communications systems across the nation are assisting our local teams. Crews are working from dusk to dawn every day.
Customers are urged to use safety in their clean-up efforts. If lines are down, do not touch them. Professionals from Cox and local utility companies will move and repair any broken cable and utility lines.
Baton Rouge and Acadiana customers can check on service restoration by calling Cox representatives at (877) 556-7815.
Cox Greater Louisiana has reached 98% of its 1,200 employees. Those employees who have not checked in with their supervisor or team are encouraged to call 877-COX-IMOK.
