Ike-related rumors not true, BRPD official says--Rumors that Mayor Kip Holden ordered mandatory business closings this afternoon, that the East Baton Rouge Parish curfew has been reinstated and that no traffic will be allowed on local roads after a certain time this evening are just that, says Sgt. Don Kelly, spokesman for the Baton Rouge Police Department. “There is no truth to any of these rumors,” Kelly says in an e-mail sent to local media this afternoon. He encourages people who are interested in closures to contact the parish’s emergency operations center at 389-2100 for confirmation “before contributing to public anxiety by spreading such unfounded rumors.” Ike continues moving west-northwest toward the upper Texas coast, where it is expected to make landfall late today or early Saturday. This presents an increased hazard to our firefighters and the general public as more units are responding to a perceived emergency in already congested traffic.

Unfortunately, Entergy's restoration reports are much overestimated. We realize that the devastation is widespread to the power grid. Just take a spin around a few blocks and get a peek. But to issue reports of entire neighborhoods being restored several days ago and not a single home has power if not by a small generator is absolutely wrong and will seriously hurt Entergy's credibility at the PSC.

Thank you DEMCO. A group of 5 from South Alabama came to restore our power. We are on a 1500 foot long single user line. The tree that fell and broke the cable and line was enormous. These guys crawled over the fallen tree and put on their strap-on climbers (no bucket trucks were available) and one of them spent about 40 minutes at the top of the pole splicing the cable and the line.
Thank you South Alabama.
