Becoming a partner at the Rockit Science Agency has been a rush for Brent Sims.
“It has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my entire career,” he says. “It gave me the freedom to spend the last six months with my father before his passing while allowing me to thrive in a business setting that encourages fresh and ground-breaking ideas.”
After working in a variety of industries—including advertising and marketing, entertainment, financial, real estate, nonprofit and retail—Sims says he found his dream job with Brad BonGiovanni’s boutique agency.
Sims’ arrival also allowed the agency to expand services from interactive Web sites and design to include strategic marketing, public relations and media buying.
“It was an opportunity to help grow an already successful business model while utilizing the ultimate application of my past experience,” he says.
Sims had worked with freelance clients in Baton Rouge and Los Angeles as well as a handful of boutiques and larger agencies. He gained an understanding of global brand strategies that gave him the confidence to continue expanding his career, and he found that fit with Rockit Science.
The skills on which Sims built this success include setting a clear mission for the agency and client projects, identifying client challenges, collaboration, listening, empowering and delegating, surrounding himself with talented co-workers, knowing the balance of all these factors and learning from what they do right and wrong to learn as a company.
“I consider myself a creative and experienced professional,” he says, “but you know you’re in the right place when your co-workers wow you on a daily basis on client projects.”
For Sims, helping grow the agency has been rewarding. It’s a turnaround from more challenging times earlier this year.
“The two things I learned from an early age were a strong set of values and an incredible work ethic, watching my father give everything he had to provide for his family,” he says. “Often times going without so I would be provided the best schools and opportunities. He’s the reason I’m successful.”
