Why do you do what you do?

I get asked this a lot. I knew I wanted to go into Business when I got to LSU. I signed up for Accounting because I was good at it, but I wasn’t sure I would ever practice accounting. Turns out, I really enjoy it!

What is your greatest professional accomplishment?

Being the second female partner in a 60-year old accounting firm. When I graduated from college, women were a minority in accounting, especially in leadership positions. That is no longer the case. There is a tremendous amount of opportunity for women in accounting right now.

What was your first job?

Very first job? A cashier at McDonald’s (I was not good on the grill…..)

What is the best advice you've ever received?

Trust your intuition.

Who do you most admire in the local business community and why?

Mayor Kip Holden. I admire his vision for our community and his incredible tenacity in getting the job done.

If you could have any job other than your own, what would it be?

Wow, the possibilities are endless! I would love to own a boutique in my next life.

What is the greatest personal or professional obstacle you've overcome?

Trying to quiet my overactive brain – I think way too much.

If you started over, what would you do differently?

I would take a year off between college and career to travel the world.

What is your prescription for life?

No matter what, keep smiling. I learned this from my mother.

Katie Holmes

What do you do to unwind?

Yoga, exercise, read, travel and take my dogs on long walks

What is the most expensive purchase you've made for yourself?

A painting from an art gallery in Santa Fe

What is your favorite weekend activity?

Long weekend – flying off to Santa Fe. In Baton Rouge, dinner with close friends.

What's your theme song?

"Say What You Need To Say" by John Mayer

What's your favorite spot in Baton Rouge?

LSU Lakes

How do you take your coffee/tea?

With cream and real sugar (no artificial sweeteners for me!)

Hard to choose because I love all kinds of music. I’ll say The Eagles.

I’m not much of a gadget person. Probably my iPod.

What is something that you can't live without?

I learned after Gustav that I cannot live without power!

If you could change one thing about Baton Rouge, what would it be?

The quality of public education.

What is your greatest hope for Baton Rouge?

That Baton Rouge becomes a top city that young and old want to live in.

What is your greatest fear for Baton Rouge?

I fear that Baton Rouge will get bogged down in old ways of thinking and doing things, and miss the opportunity we have right now to become a really great place to live.
