BATON ROUGE (AP) -- A key state money panel is taking a look at the amount of money Louisiana owes for each man, woman and child.
The Bond Commission is scheduled to discuss the numbers Friday. The debt load is within the state's legal limits, but it's been growing steadily higher in the last few years.
A preliminary report on Louisiana's state-supported debt per capita, released earlier this year, said that figure was $1,369 as the books were closed on 2007. That would rank the state 15th in the nation.
The Bond Commission didn't formally adopt the debt report then because Governor Bobby Jindal's administration questioned some of the items included in the calculations. The commission is scheduled to get an update on the figures.
