Going downtown

Going downtown

There’s construction ongoing in seemingly every block of downtown Baton Rouge as office buildings go up and older properties are overhauled.

On a lunch break, you’ll see as many cranes, construction workers and orange barricades as you will state employees. And driving around all the work to find parking poses a challenge to people who don’t often visit downtown.

There’s so much activity, you wonder what downtown would be like if there was anything happening with several of the projects that were announced over the past few years but have yet to come to pass. There are ambitious plans—a high-rise riverfront residential development and a live music club—that haven’t yet come to fruition.

While it appears some projects could be permanently on the shelf, some developers are still looking at their downtown projects.
