To celebrate more than 20 years of shooting for Business Report, the editors asked me to pick my favorite images to be reproduced. As usual, they didn’t give me guidelines or ask me to pick powerful people. They just told me to pick my favorite photos. So that’s what I stuck to.
Being a creative person is a baffling experience. After years and years of making a living at it, you realize some of your best images were created when you let your guard down and were open to the moment unfolding before you.
There are the times where you strategize and plan: You scout and you sometimes bring in props. But nothing guarantees good images. In fact, preparation sometimes gets in the way. And you have to be quick to abandon an idea, and come up with another.
The 20-plus years have been a lot of fun and certainly interesting. Business folks are a fascinating group. I’ve watched owners grow from struggling young entrepreneurs to business owners whose stocks trade on the big board. Painfully, I’ve seen a few come and go. You can’t help but be wide-eyed with wonder about all the different things that people come up with to sell or do.
I’m certainly happy to celebrate 25 years of Business Report. I know that they will never run out of stories to report, and I will never run out of images to capture.
