Pinnacle, Penn National could be bidders for casino operator

Wednesday, October 24, 2007

Penn National Gaming, which owns Hollywood Casino Baton Rouge, and Pinnacle Entertainment, which plans to build a casino resort on River Road, could be in the hunt to buy Ameristar Casinos Inc., according to the Associated Press. A majority of Ameristar is owned by the estate of founder Craig H. Neilsen, but looming tax and estate issues could force a sale. Ameristar operates eight casinos, including one in Vicksburg, Miss. Motley Fool analyst Jeff Hwang says while Pinnacle may not be able to buy Ameristar outright, a merger would make sense because it would create a strong regional network of casinos and a good combination of corporate talent.
