Heaven on Earth

To the editor:

What a interesting article on the Rev. Jimmy Swaggart and his changing role in Baton Rouge (“The land baron,” Oct. 9). I do not live in Baton Rouge, but I but have visited the Mall of Louisiana and thought the area was stunningly beautiful. I did not know he has owned that property for years. It’s nice to read good press about the prosperous area and this man of God (and now real estate). Who knew?

Greatness checklist

To the editor:

What does it take to be great? (“Random Thoughts,” Oct. 9).

• Diverse economy; growing jobs in many sectors.

• Sought-after public education success.

• Mass transit alternatives.

• Tolerance/encouragement for all cultures.

• Citizens willing to support change.

Robert Kidder, Baton Rouge

Win-win situation

To the editor:

First, I cannot believe you would pose the question, “Who would your rather see win on Saturday? LSU or Jindal” (Daily Report, Oct. 15-16).

Second, I cannot believe the result of that poll, with LSU winning 54% to 46%. After the past four years of lame, inept leadership, I’m astounded the results are not in Jindal’s favor 95% to 5%. I can only hope the idiots who voted that they would rather see LSU win on Saturday will be in Tiger Stadium and not at their voting precincts.

Kathy Vann, Baton Rouge

To the editor:

I think the question of the day is the toughest question ever asked by Business Report. It was one of those “moments of truth” type questions. I really struggled with my response. Eventually, my left brain won out, and I voted for Jindal. I am exhausted from this little exercise. Please don’t make us choose like this again. It’s a good thing that in reality we do not have to make this choice.

Janet Schwartz, Baton Rouge
