Why do you do what you do?
I know how important good health is to individual happiness. I know my job makes a difference in the health of our community and that’s something I can smile about, even at the end of the most challenging day.
What is your greatest professional accomplishment?
Being named the Top Hospital Leadership Team in the Nation by HealthLeaders. It took a tremendous amount of teamwork to improve our operations financially and I can’t say enough about the support from our staff, our physicians and the community. That award was validation for the hard work we have accomplished as a team.
What was your first job?
I was a medic in the Air Force.
Who do you most admire in the local business community and why?
John Barton. John has enjoyed a very long and successful career. He is sincere, a great listener, but is also very direct when appropriate. He is known for his love of the community and that is a sure sign of a truly successful local business leader.
If you could have any job other than your own, what would it be?
Since I really love sports, I’d probably enjoy being a sports agent. Of course, I’d want really great clients. Maybe Tiger or any of the athletes from Boston!
What book are you currently reading?
Winning by Jack Welch and Suzy Welch
If you could have dinner with any three living people, who would they be? (Authors? Leaders?)
Margaret Thatcher, George Herbert Walker Bush, and Bill Clinton
Who would play you in a movie?
Tom Selleck. It’s the mustache!
What's your favorite spot in Baton Rouge?
I love being at home – probably because I value that time so much.
How do you take your coffee/tea?
Hot tea, preferably green tea with lemon
What is something that you can't live without?
Exercise. It is a great way to reduce stress and it is some of my best thinking time.
What is your greatest hope for Baton Rouge?
That it will be the next great American City. I’d like people from other states to want to live in Baton Rouge because of our progressive thinking, respect for diversity, innovation and great quality of life.
What is your greatest fear for Baton Rouge?
That we resist change. Talk is great, but we have to be ready and willing to take action.
