The Center for Planning Excellence has endorsed the proposed Rouzan TND on the south side of Perkins Road. CPEX says the project adheres to 10 "smart growth" principles, including a mix of land uses, a range of housing choices and preservation of open space. "The project will strengthen existing communities through investment in a new school, church and library in an area accessible by car, bike or foot," CPEX CEO Elizabeth "Boo" Thomas said in a statement. Thomas said the controversy created by Rouzan shows the larger need to create a shared vision for growing Baton Rouge. Click here to read the CPEX statement. Rouzan is scheduled to go before the Planning Commission on Monday. To read a recent Business Report cover story about the development, click here.
