Residential project planned for Gardere
A Georgia developer has plans for a residential development on a 12-acre tract on GSRI Avenue near Gardere. Phil Britton, who owns Atlanta-based JBP Holdings, today filed a concept plan with the Planning Commission to develop 38 single-family rental homes in a subdivision to be called Burberry Estates. The homes will come in two styles—1,200-square-foot, two-bedroom homes, and 1,500-square-foot, three-bedroom homes—according to Britton's wife and business partner, June Britton. Rental rates will range from $800 to $1,200 per month. Recent redevelopment in and around Gardere, including L'Auberge, LSU Innovation Park and the new National Guard Armory, helped attract Phil Britton to the area, June Britton says. "Even before the casino opened, we were attracted to this area," she says. "You can see and feel the growth." Burberry Estates is the latest of several redevelopment projects planned or under way for the area. The Planning Commission is scheduled to take up the Burberry Estates request at its April 22 meeting. —Stephanie Riegel
