Caliente expands to B.R. from Central
Caliente Mexican Craving is throwing a celebration Thursday to mark the grand opening of its first Baton Rouge location, near the corner of West Lee and Nicholson drives. The new Caliente, in the former site of the Blind Tiger, is the restaurant's second location. Owner Ricardo Barraza felt it was a good time to expand into Baton Rouge, as the original Caliente is well-established in Central, he says. "I've always liked the idea of opening a restaurant in Baton Rouge," he says. "Over five years in Central we've been adding to and changing up the menu, and we felt our food was ready to bring here." After growing up in Parras, Mexico, Barraza came to the United States and has worked in the restaurant business ever since. "I started as a dishwasher, cook, then manager, and now I own a restaurant," Barraza says. Caliente features traditional Mexican favorites with a selection of unique offerings Barraza has added over the years. And the menu will keep changing. Barraza says he plans to offer brunch and a more affordable family fajita meal in the near future. —Frederick Holl
