EBR building permits continue to climb in March
About 2.5% more residential and commercial construction projects received permits in March compared to the same month last year, according to a report out today from the city-parish Department of Public Works. A total of 2,026 projects were permitted on the month, compared to 1,977 in March 2011; however, total valuation of the projects permitted in March dipped 6.2% to about $36.5 million, compared to just shy of $40 million last year. The March increase follows a 15% rise in permits issued in February, which more than reversed a 4.2% dip in permits during the January. Year-to-date, permits are up 4.3%, and valuation is also up 55.5%. A total of 5,541 permits have been issued this year, compared to 5,314 through March of last year.
