UNO researchers advance shipbuilding welding technique

(From The Times-Picayune) After two years of work, researchers at the University of New Orleans have reached a milestone in an ongoing effort to use a welding technique to bond titanium plates, an idea once considered unlikely because of the physical properties of the ultra-light material. It's a development that some say could have major implications in the naval shipbuilding industry.
