Major Capital Region projects included in Jindal's outlay proposal




A capital construction proposal for the fiscal year beginning July 1 that Gov. Bobby Jindal submitted Monday to the Legislature includes several major higher education and transportation projects in the Greater Baton Rouge area. "This funding continues our strong commitment to improving the learning environment at our colleges and universities as well as upgrading our roads to improve the quality of life for folks in the Capital Region," Jindal says in a release. Projects and funding included in the proposal are:
• $8.27 million for phase II renovations of the Animal and Food Science Facilities at the LSU Agricultural Center;
• $4.375 million for South Campus land acquisition at LSU;
• $2.4 million for planning and construction of an Automotive Training Center at the Louisiana Community and Technical College System;
• $6 million for widening and improvements to Interstate 12, from the O'Neal Lane exit to Walker/Satsuma in Livingston Parish;
• $5.8 million for widening Juban Road from Interstate 12 to Florida Boulevard in Livingston Parish;
• $2.7 million for widening La. 42 (Burbank Drive) from Highway 61 to La. 44 in Ascension Parish;
• $2.7 million for the Hooper Road extension;
• $1 million for real estate acquisition and an intersection improvement program in Ascension Parish;
• $9.155 million for planning and construction of Louisiana Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory in East Baton Rouge Parish;
• $1.74 million for planning and construction of Wet-Lab Business Incubators in East Baton Rouge Parish.
