Local stylists to have a hand in Paris Fashion Week

When dozens of super models take to the runways next week at Paris Fashion Week to show off the fall collections of the world's top fashion designers, 18 of them will be sporting hairstyles done by two local stylists—Dewaye Mercer and Susie Chaney of Mercer Studio. The pair, who have worked together for years and opened Mercer Studios on Highland Road in late 2010, will be doing hair for models in the show of a Japanese designer, Masha Ma. Though she may not be well-known in these parts, Ma is an emerging star on the high-fashion scene. Perhaps more important, her show, which is Wednesday of Paris Fashion Week, is slated to run between Chanel's and Luis Vuitton's, which means it will get a lot of exposure. Chaney and Mercer got the gig through connections with a high-end hair product line their studio carries, Oribe. "We knew them from having worked with them in Arizona," Chaney explains. "When they contacted us and asked us if we'd be interested in doing this, we thought it was a joke. It's still really hard to fathom." —Stephanie Riegel
