'Business Report' planner: Business Awards banquet set for Tuesday ... Weekend event designed to birth businesses ... LSU to salute fast-growing alumni companies
Tuesday — The 28th annual Business Awards and Hall of Fame banquet, presented by Business Report and Junior Achievement, will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza. This year's honorees are: Hans J. Sternberg of Starmount Life Insurance Company, Hall of Fame laureate; Bill Holman of Baton Rouge General/General Health System, Businessperson of the Year; Mark Ashworth of Oxford Alloys, Young Businessperson of the Year; Cajun Industries, Company of the Year (100 employees or more); and Orion Instruments, Company of the Year (fewer than 100 employees). Friday-Sunday — Startup Weekend Baton Rouge, an event that helps entrepreneurs launch businesses, will be held at Pleasant Hall on the LSU campus. The event, sponsored by the Kauffman Foundation, provides the networking, resources and incentives for individuals and teams to go from idea to launch. Friday — Dale Redman, chief financial officer of Amedisys, will speak at 9:30 a.m. in LSU's Energy, Coast & Environment Building. Redman, who earned a master's in accounting from LSU, will wrap up the 2011 LSU Flores MBA Program Spring Distinguished Speaker Series.
Friday — The inaugural LSU 100: Fastest Growing Tiger Businesses Awards Luncheon will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Crowne Plaza Hotel. The luncheon will salute the fastest growing companies headed by former LSU students. For tickets or more information, e-mail jrosht1@lsu.edu.
